Membership

Membership into the Northeastern Weights and Measures Association (NEWMA) shall be classed as: Active, Advisory, Associate and Honorary.

Active membership in NEWMA shall extend to individuals in the employ of the following States, Commonwealths, or any political subdivision thereof: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont who are engaged in the enforcement of weights and measures laws and regulations.

Advisory membership shall be comprised of those persons who are:

  • representatives of agencies of the Federal Government
  • representatives of State or local governments other than those involved in the enforcement of weights and measures laws and regulations
  • foreign government officials
  • retired from his or her State, County or Municipal position as an active Weights and Measures official and who is interested in the objectives and activities of NEWMA and who participate as individuals rather than as representatives of a particular industry or interest group.

Associate membership is open to and construed to be comprised of any person, regardless of residency, who are representatives of manufacturers, industry, business, and consumers, and other persons who are interested in the objectives and activities of NEWMA and who do not qualify as Active or Advisory member.

Honorary membership is granted when any person has won the gratitude of NEWMA through some particular interest or deed, that person may be elected to honorary membership by two-thirds vote of the quorum present. Such membership shall be free from all registration fees, and not have the right to vote or hold offices.
